A New Hampshire man who police say abducted his 1-year-old son from New Hampshire was spotted early Friday, chased through Farmington and arrested by Franklin County sheriff’s deputies on Route 27 in New Vineyard.

Farmington police said Jeremiah Grant was seen around 1:25 a.m. on Fairbanks Road and pulled over by Officer Darin Gilbert. Gilbert identified Grant as being wanted in connection with an Amber Alert issued by Somersworth, New Hampshire, police Thursday in the abduction of his son, Malachi Grant.

Grant fled the stop, heading north on Route 4 toward Strong, where the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police joined the chase.

Grant was stopped after spike strips were deployed on Route 27 in New Vineyard.

Officials said Grant is from Maine and is listed on the state’s sex offender registry.

Grant was charged with being a fugitive from justice, eluding police, reckless conduct and endangering the welfare of a child.

Farmington police expect Grant will be extradited to New Hampshire, where he also will be charged with taking without owner’s consent and one felony count of interference with custody, police said.

Malachi Grant was unharmed in the chase and was checked by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Farmington Police Department to be reunited with his mother.

Officers from the Somersworth and Farmington police departments, Franklin County and Maine State Police plan to continue working on the investigation.
