Now that we have had at least three “swatting” incidents in Maine, I am hoping beyond hope that at least one of the people committing these crimes is caught and bears the full brunt of the judicial system. Throw the book at them.

I think that the severe punishment handed down to the first caught will act as a deterrent to anyone else who thinks this is funny or entertaining. I don’t care if they apologize up and down, since they’ve put people at risk for their own amusement.

Just imagine if police officers went to the home of someone who is disabled in some way and that person couldn’t comply with the officers’ commands. Is that a tragedy waiting to happen?

It appears as though these criminals have way too much time on their hands. Therefore, I suggest they spend this “free time” in jail, and also pay restitution to the local police departments.

And, when and if this happens, it should be placed on the front page of the Portland Press Herald, for all to see that there are consequences for their actions.

It sickens me to think that people like this even exist in Maine. Whatever happened to the phrase, “Maine, the way life should be”?
