New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

The John T. Gorman Foundation, based in Portland, recently hired Elizabeth G. Pope as communications and research associate. Pope formerly was director of research and operations at Idealware, a Portland organization that provides research and training about technology for nonprofit groups. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Hospice of Southern Maine, based in Scarborough, has hired Kristin Melville as development and outreach director. Melville has worked in fundraising, marketing and communications for more than 20 years, and previously served as director of donor relations for The Salvation Army’s northern New England division. She is a graduate of Jamestown Community College and the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Nancy Carleton, who heads Carleton Realty in downtown Bath, has joined the board of directors for Bath Housing Development Corp. In addition, Jeffry Knuckles has been elected president of the board, and Catherine Powers is the new vice president. Bath Housing serves over 325 households in the area through affordable apartments and housing vouchers.

Bob Gould has been named executive vice president and principal of Spinnaker Trust, a Portland-based trust company managing over $1 billion in assets. Gould was previously a general partner of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., where he co-founded and led the firm’s private equity practice. A resident of Scarborough and of Hamilton, Massachusetts, he holds an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Macpage, a certified public accounting firm with offices in Portland and South Portland, has hired Bill Ross as a manager in consulting services. Ross brings more than 20 years of experience to his role, and holds an economics degree from Middlebury College.

Nina Elliott, of Freeport, recently joined Winter People Inc. as a customer service associate. Winter People is a provider of custom apparel and promotional products, and operates a retail store in Freeport. Elliott recently served as assistant store manager of The Body Shop in Freeport. In addition, Winter People promoted Cumberland resident Ashley Bailey from supervisor of accounting to finance manager.

BerryDunn, a certified public accounting and consulting firm based in Portland, recently named Lisa Openshaw and Jason Fournier as principals. In addition, principal Tim Masse was named a member of the firm’s management committee.

New Beginnings

Benay Enterprises Inc., which provides financial and human resource administration services, has opened an office at 533 Congress St., Portland. It is the second location for Benay, which has operated in Danbury, Connecticut, for 20 years.

Soakology, a foot spa and teahouse, recently moved to a new site at 511 Congress St., Portland, a block from its previous location at 30 City Center. The new spa accommodates about 20 clients, and was opened July 24 at a ribbon-cutting with Portland Mayor Michael Brennan.

Giving Back

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, which includes churches throughout the state, collected more than $86,000 in donations during June to aid victims of the destructive earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year. All of the proceeds from the fundraising will be channeled to Catholic Relief Services, the international humanitarian agency representing the Catholic church in the United States.


In acknowledgement of outstanding job performance, Bridget Towle, of South Portland, was recently named Comfort Keeper of the Month by Comfort Keepers, a Scarborough-based provider of in-home support services for older adults in southern Maine.
