SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The University of New England field hockey team has been ranked second out of seven in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Preseason Poll, which was announced Wednesday morning.

Endicott College received a trio of first-place votes and finished with 45 points, one ahead of the Nor’easters (44), who also garnered three votes for the top spot. Gordon College (31 points) and Salve Regina University (28) came in third and fourth, respectively, with the Seahawks taking the remaining firstplace nod. Roger Williams University claimed 25 points to round out the top five.

UNE is back from its second CCC Championship title in 2014, when the Nor’easters posted an 11-1 mark in league action and then defeated Endicott in double overtime of the final. The Nor’easters hosted the University’s first-ever NCAA Championship contest and advanced to the second round of the tournament to end with a 17-6 overall ledger. UNE is on a streak of seven seasons in a row with a winning record in CCC play.

Big Blue starts toward a repeat on September 16 at home against RWU. The conference championship in scheduled to begin on November 4.
