Regarding Deborah H. Gould’s letter to the editor, “Alleged email scandal is much ado about nothing” (Sept. 3):

Ms. Gould states that “the State Department has found no proof that (Hillary Clinton) received or sent classified information while in office,” and she asks the Press Herald to make a clarification reflecting that stance.

To the contrary, the State Department has revealed 57 emails from foreign leaders. These are, by their inherent nature, regarded as “born” classified.

Hence, Hillary Clinton did indeed receive – and, in some cases, transmitted – classified emails.

As a matter of fact, the Press Herald’s headline on the Washington Post story that Ms. Gould cites – “At least six Clinton emails are deemed to be classified” – is a conservative assessment.

No clarification from the Press Herald is necessary.
