A woman whose car crashed into a tree on Saco Avenue in Old Orchard Beach remained hospitalized Sunday night, two days after the crash.

Old Orchard Beach Fire Chief Ricky Plummer said the woman, who appeared to be in her 60s, was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Her name was unavailable.

Plummer said the woman’s four-door sedan went off the road around 11 a.m. Friday and struck a tree head-on. There were no brake marks on the pavement

It took rescue crews from Biddeford and Saco about 20 minutes to extricate the woman from the wreckage. She was alone in her car.

“She was unconscious when we arrived. We’re not sure about the cause, but it may have been a medical emergency,” Plummer said Sunday.

The crash took place near the intersection of Saco Avenue and Jameson Hill Road, about a quarter-mile from the Loranger Middle School and the Jameson School.
