Ben Ekedahl, Cape Elizabeth football: Ekedahl opened the scoring with a 78-yard kickoff return, then added a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 36-yard touchdown reception, all in the first quarter, as the Capers rolled to a 47-6 win over Poland to improve to 2-0. He also kicked four PATs.
HONORABLE MENTION
Surafel Zunser, Massabesic soccer: Zunser scored three goals and added an assist in a 4-0 win against Noble that ended the Mustangs’ losing streak dating back to 2013.
Ryan Moody, Bonny Eagle soccer: Moody scored all three goals in 3-3 tie against South Portland and also had the Scots’ goal in a 5-1 loss to Scarborough in a game that was 1-1 at the half.
Greg Kalagias, Thornton Academy golf: Kalagias shot a par 34 for the low round in a match Tuesday against Westbrook, which Thornton Academy won to improve to 4-1.
GIRLS
Emma Gutheinz, Camden Hills soccer: The senior forward set the school career goal-scoring record with four goals against Cony, added three in a 9-0 win against Oxford Hills and one in a 5-1 win against Messalonskee. Gutheinz has 56 career goals. The previous record was 51, set by Caitlyn Brown in 2002.
HONORABLE MENTION
Emma Rutledge, Massabesic field hockey: She had four goals and three assists in big wins over Portland and Marshwood.
Angie Jones, Greater Portland Christian soccer: The senior scored the winner with a minute to play as GPC snapped a 42-game losing streak with a 3-2 win against Highview Christian.
Erin Holmes, Greely golf: Holmes shot a 2-under 34 on the front nine of Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland to help the Rangers beat Gorham 11-2 to improve to 5-0. Holmes has consistently been well under 40 in nine-hole matches.
