Area police on Wednesday were investigating at least seven burglaries that occurred overnight at businesses up and down the U.S. Route 202 corridor.

The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is looking into break-ins at three business in Manchester, while Winthrop police say one business was burglarized in that community. State police, meanwhile, are investigating three break-ins in the Androscoggin County town of Greene.

Sgt. Frank Hatch, of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, said burglars broke into three Manchester businesses: DR Designs, at 980 Western Ave.; the Fielder’s Choice ice cream stand, at 937 Western Ave.; and The Pizza Stone, at 714 Western Ave.

Winthrop police Chief Ryan Frost said the Stevenson Farm Stand was burglarized.

“There were signs of entry through a door as well as the window,” Frost said.

State police Lt. Walter Grzyb said three businesses were hit in Greene: Steel It Roofing, at 461 U.S. Route 202; Hurricanes Cafe & Deli, at 682 U.S. Route 202; and Mower’s Market, at 738 U.S. Route 202.

Grzyb said nothing was taken from inside Hurricanes and only tobacco products and spare change were stolen from Mower’s Market. The burglars took cash from Steel It roofing, Grzyb said. He said the money stolen totaled less than $1,000. The burglaries all apparently occurred during the overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Fielder’s Choice was open until 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to its website, and the first report of a burglary came in at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Hatch said a report did not indicate what, if anything, was taken from the businesses other than a note that the Pizza Stone burglar netted just spare change.

Investigators from all three agencies are working together on the burglaries, which they think are connected.

“Right now we’re comparing notes and seeing what we have for leads that concur and can give us direction,” Hatch said.

Frost asked anyone who noticed suspicious behavior along the stretch of road to call Winthrop police at 377-7226 or the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office at 623-3614.
