WELLS — Host Wells held Lake Region to a three- andout on the game’s first possession, scored on its own opening possession, then scored on the Lakers’ next possession as the Warriors rolled to a 59- 0 victory in a Class C South football game at Warrior Memorial Field Friday. The Wells (4- 2) defense pushed the Lakers (0- 6) back two yards in their first three plays, then after a Lake Region punt the Warrior offense needed just four plays for Evan Whitten to score on a 6- yard touchdown run. The Lakers gained their initial first down of the game on their next drive, but five plays in Jordan Cluff intercepted a Doug Banks pass and took it 55 yards the other way for another Wells touchdown. Riley Dempsey capped off another quick Wells drive with a 15- yard touchdown run as the Warriors took a 21- 0 lead after one quarter. That lead grew to 46- 0 at halftime on a 7- yard touchdown run by Jake Spofford, a 24- yard scoring scamper by Chad Fitzpatrick, a 25- yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Deandre Woods and a blocked field goal that Fitzpatrick took 62 yards the other way for a score. Nick Hansen and Spofford added touchdown runs of 1 and 4 yards, respectively, as Wells went up 59- 0 in the third quarter. In all, seven different Warriors scored touchdowns, and Keegan Reidy kicked five extra- points. The win puts Wells back on track after dropping a heartbreaker at Yarmouth last week. The Warriors host 4- 2 Gray- New Gloucester next Friday.
