Portland police on Tuesday released the names of a mother and her 3-year-old son who were struck by a vehicle while walking on Auburn Street over the weekend.
Namuteto Gracia, 34, and her son, Shema Alexi, both suffered serious injuries when the were hit early Saturday evening by a sport utility vehicle while trying to cross the road. The vehicle was driven by David Branch, 55, of Portland.
Gracia and Alexi were both taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by ambulance. Gracia’s condition had been upgraded to fair by Tuesday. Alexi’s condition was not available, according to hospital staff.
Police are still investigating and said anyone who witnessed the incident should call the Portland Police Traffic Division at 874-8532.
