A Hermon woman is charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, after her arrest on the Maine Turnpike in York.

Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Kimberly A. Cote, 36, after stopping her vehicle Tuesday night just north of the York toll plaza, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Agents stopped Cote, who had two passengers at the time, after developing information that the three might be transporting a large amount of heroin from New York City. Police were led to believe that they were heading to the Bangor area, where they planned to distribute the drugs, but a search of the vehicle by a drug-sniffing dog turned up nothing.

Agents later discovered that Cote had concealed 42 grams of heroin in a body cavity, McCausland said. The street value of the heroin was estimated at $8,000.

A man from Brooklyn, New York, and a woman from Hampden were released without being charged.
