BIDDEFORD — Ruth M. Jacques passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2015, at the age of 87, after a lengthy and valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s disease .

Ruth was born April 4, 1928, in Biddeford to Uldore and Emilienne (Valliere) Bouchard, and attended St. Joseph School in Biddeford.

She married Lucien G. Jacques on Oct. 25, 1952, at St. Joseph Church.

She worked in several area shoe shops for most of her working life, retiring in 1980. She and Lou retired to Orlando, Florida, where they enjoyed 17 years of Florida warmth and sunshine. They returned back to Biddeford in 1997.

Ruth enjoyed traveling, cooking and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Biddeford Over 50 Club and the Elks Club in Winter Park, Florida. Her other sister, Gilberte Normand, passed away in 2001.

She is survived by: her husband, Lou; a sister, Paulette Beaudoin; and many nieces and nephews.

Alzheimer’s disease ravages the mind, then the body. But it could not dim the eternal bond of love and devotion Ruth and Lou shared with each other through 63 years of marriage.

There will be an hour of visitation on Sunday, Nov. 1 beginning at 1 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.

Memorial donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. To share condolences online, visit www.hopememorial.com.
