OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Jean Paul R. Parenteau, 85, of Old Orchard Beach, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, of lung cancer at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on July 26, 1930, the son of Rudolph and Alphonsine Parent Parenteau, one of four children. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from the former St. Louis High School with the Class of 1950.

On Jan. 2, 1957, he married Mary Vlahakos in Biddeford. She died on Oct. 25, 1977. On Dec. 28, 1985, he married Monique Huard Cantara in Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco.

Mr. Parenteau served over 20 years with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1971. Following his discharge he worked 19 years with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1993.

Jean Paul enjoyed playing shuffleboard, cards and watching the Patriots and the Steelers. He was a member of VFW, the American Legion and the Biddeford-Saco Elks.

He is survived by: his wife of 29 years, Monique of Old Orchard Beach; a daughter, Terry Lynn Joiner of Portland; four stepdaughters, Carol Chabot and her husband Steve of Saco, Joann Cantara of Waterville, Bonnie Hoseit and her husband Lenny of Saco, and Christine Cantara of Old Orchard Beach; a brother, Norman Parenteau and his wife Joyce of Brockton, Massachusetts; a sister, Jacqueline Hebert of Biddeford; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
