GUILDHALL, Vt. — A Vermont mother has pleaded not guilty in an August car crash that killed her 3-year-old son.

An attorney for Christina Deslandes, of Island Pond, entered not guilty pleas Tuesday morning to charges of involuntary manslaughter, grossly negligent motor vehicle operation and other offenses.

Police said the 25-year-old was driving northbound on Route 114 in Brighton on Aug. 16 when her car crossed the center line and southbound lane and hit a telephone pole.

Police said neither Deslandes nor the child wore a seatbelt. The child wasn’t restrained in a child seat.

The child died at the North Country Hospital emergency room. A medical examiner’s report ruled he died from blunt force trauma of the head and neck. Deslandes sustained minor injuries.
