As a first-generation American, I take pride in learning about the efforts of those on the small island of Lesbos to help the thousands of refugees who are streaming onto their shores. Though overwhelmed by the multitudes, the Greek islanders have opened their hearts and are doing all they can to help those in need.

What a contrast to the efforts of Gov. LePage and his political cronies in trying to prevent refugees from settling in Maine. Sadly, LePage and about 28 other Republican governors are attempting to stop refugees from coming to their states.

Maine people are better than that. Let’s not allow the governor’s prejudice to prevent those most vulnerable from settling in our state.
