Portland police are investigating a body found Saturday in Deering Oaks park.

The body was found Saturday afternoon, and the officers from the department’s criminal investigations division were looking into the cause of death, a police supervisor said. No other information was immediately available late Saturday.

WMTW-TV reported earlier Saturday that police said the man may have died of a drug overdose. Police had stepped up patrols in the area over the summer after several opiate overdoses in Deering Oaks and in response to complaints from visitors who discovered used needles in the park. The city also installed a needle disposal box in Deering Oaks.
