BATH – The future Zumwalt is back at Bath Iron Works after completing its first seven days of sea trials.
The stealth destroyer returned to the shipyard Sunday and will remain berthed for the time being.
Capt. Thurraya Kent, a Navy spokeswoman, said Monday that the shipbuilder, subcontractors and Navy personnel tested small boat operations, the integrated propulsion system and other systems during more than 100 hours of testing. She described primary risk reduction objectives as being “successfully met.”
The ship’s performance is being analyzed and problems will be corrected.
The largest destroyer built for the Navy headed to sea for the first time on Dec. 7. The 600-foot-long destroyer made news when it assisted in the rescue of a fisherman who had a medical emergency early Saturday.
