SACO — Matthew Caron scored two goals Wednesday night to lead Scarborough to a 4-1 victory against Edward Little in a schoolboy hockey game at the MHG Arena.

After a scoreless first period, John Callahan got Scarborough (4-0) on the board four minutes into the second on a power-play goal from Cameron Smith.

Edward Little (2-2) tied the game 11:32 into the period with a power-play goal by Colby Bilodeau from Liam Benson.

Caron scored the first of his two goals 30 seconds later from Smith and Eric Murray.

He added his second goal unassisted 36 seconds into the third period.

Devin Dumont stopped 22 of 26 shots for the Eddies. Albert Dumont saved 7 of 8 for the Red Storm.

MESSALONSKEE 11, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 3: Jared Cunningham and Brandon Nale each finished with nine points to lead visiting Messalonskee (4-0) past the Broncos (0-3).

Cunningham had five goals and four assists while Nale had a pair of goals and seven assists for the Eagles.

Dylan Burton also had a big game, finishing with two goals and three assists.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

CAPE ELIZABETH/WAYNFLETE/SOUTH PORTLAND 5, PORTLAND/DEERING 1: Laura Baginski had two goals and one assist to lead Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland (3-5) over Portland/Deering (0-4) at Portland.

Hannah Bosworth added a goal and an assist for Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland.

Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland led 1-0 after 1:32 on an unassisted goal by Abby Ekedahl, then made it 2-0 later in the period on a goal by Sophia Venditti from Rose Punsky.

Portland/Deering responded on an unassisted goal scored by Inez Braceras late in the first period.

FALMOUTH 12, GORHAM/BONNY EAGLE/MASSABESIC 0: Abigal Lebel had two goals, and Devon Sarazin added one goal and three assists to lead the Yachtsmen (6-0-2) past Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic (0-6) at Gorham.

Falmouth jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first period on goals from Camden Carrier, Marcy Kittredge, Lebel and Stone Carmichael.

Lebel scored 13:09 into the second period from Sarah Noyes and Carrier to make it 10-0.

Stone and Reid Carmichael each added a goal and an assist for Falmouth.

Ali Johnson saved 36 shots for Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 58, CHEVERUS 34: The Red Riots (2-2) opened an 18-3 lead in the first quarter and went on to defeat the Stags (3-1) at Portland.

Madeline Hasson had a game-high 29 points for South Portland, which outscored Cheverus 15-7 in the second quarter to increase its lead to 33-10.

Kathryn Whitmore added 11 points for the Red Riots.

Emme Poulin led Cheverus with seven points.
