A bookkeeper in Lincoln County who allegedly embezzled more than $150,000 from two businesses in Bristol was arrested Tuesday and charged with theft.
Joseph Corson, 51, of Bristol, an employee of Ideal Septic and McPhee Enterprises since 2001, allegedly overpaid himself and used the companies’ credit cards to make unauthorized purchases over the past 10 years, said Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in a press release. The owner of those businesses noticed discrepancies in his books and notified the sheriff’s office.
Corson was arrested Tuesday at work and taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he was later released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Murphy said the investigation is continuing.
Ideal Septic Service, which started doing business in 1998, offers septic tank pumping and portable toilet rentals. McPhee Enterprises is a plumbing service.
