George H. W. Bush, the nation’s 41st president, married Barbara Pierce in Rye, New York, soon after the end of his naval service as a fighter pilot in the Pacific during World War II.
The couple have six children, including former President George W. Bush and Jeb Bush, who is seeking the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election.
The Bushes live in Kennebunkport during the summer and are celebrated members of the coastal community.
