LYMAN — Perley G. Gooch Sr., 79, a resident of Lyman and formerly of Kennebunk, died peacefully with his family at his side Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, following a brief illness.

Perley was born in Kennebunk on June 28, 1936, a son of William L. and Isabelle (Greenleaf) Gooch Sr.

He attended Kennebunk schools. Perley sold fish in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport before joining the U.S. Army.

Once discharged from the Army, he worked as a plumber with his father in the family plumbing business until his retirement in 1998, when he took over running Gooch’s Cabins.

Perley was a member of the Arundel Lodge, and was a volunteer with the Washington Hose Fire Co. for many years.

He is survived by: his son, Perley G. Gooch Jr. of Lyman; his daughter, Luanna DeAngelis and her husband Mark of Dayton; three grandchildren, Jessica, Joseph and Nathaniel Gooch; a brother, William L. Gooch Jr. of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, with a Masonic service at 1:45 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery in the spring.
