SOUTH PORTLAND — Jack Casale scored 32 points and Cheverus used a huge final quarter Friday night to overtake South Portland 66-53 in an SMAA schoolboy basketball game at Beal Gym.
South Portland (9-7) led 40-36 through three quarters before the Stags (9-7) went on a 30-13 tear in the fourth.
Casale scored 13 points in the final quarter, Jesse Matthews hit three 3-pointers and Cheverus went 8 of 8 at the foul line.
Casale finished with five 3-pointers, Matthews scored 15 points and Austin Boudreau added 11 for the Stags.
Jack Fiorini led the Red Riots with 19 points. Matt Pelletier added 15, all on his five 3-pointers.
BOOTHBAY REGION 67, HALL-DALE 62: Carter Babcock scored 21 points and Jacob Leonard added 17 for the Seahawks (11-5), who built an early lead in overtime and held off the Bulldogs (10-6) at Boothbay Harbor.
Abel Bryer finished with 15 for the Seahawks, who outscored Hall-Dale 10-5 in overtime.
Hall-Dale trailed 49-42 through three quarters before Jett Boyer scored seven points during the late comeback that forced overtime.
Boyer finished with a game-high 22 points.
Tyler Nadeau scored 15 for Hall-Dale.
FALMOUTH 53, YARMOUTH 42: Thomas Coyne scored 21 points to lead the Yachtsmen (13-3) over the Clippers (12-4) at Falmouth.
Coyne hit three 3-pointers in the final minutes of the third quarter to give Falmouth a 39-36 lead.
Colin Coyne added 11 points for the Yachtsmen and hit four free throws in the final minute of the game.
Aleksander Medencia scored 21 points and knocked down four 3-pointers for Yarmouth. Nolan Hagerty added eight points.
KENNEBUNK 51, MARSHWOOD 47: Cameron Lovejoy made five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points for the Rams (9-7) against the Hawks (7-9) at Kennebunk.
Travon Bradford added 15 points for Kennebunk, which trailed 25-20 at halftime but cut the deficit to 35-34 going into the fourth quarter.
Benjamin Beers and Baili Lontine-Kearson scored 14 points apiece for Marshwood.
WINDHAM 62, BONNY EAGLE 51: Mike Gilman scored 20 points and Nicholas Curtis added 18 to lead the Eagles (7-9) past the Scots (2-15) at Standish.
Gilman knocked down five 3-pointers and Kyle Milfoil added 13 points for Windham, which led 30-25 at halftime.
CAPE ELIZABETH 37, BIDDEFORD 25: Matthew Graham scored eight points to lead a balanced offense for the Capers (13-3) against the Tigers (1-15) at Cape Elizabeth.
Cape Elizabeth led 28-17 at halftime.
Kyle Norton paced Biddeford with a game-high 10 points.
THORNTON ACADEMY 60, SANFORD 52: Jack Tilley scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter as the Golden Trojans (14-2) erased a six-point halftime deficit and rallied past the Spartans (6-10) at Sanford.
Corey Hart added 11 points, and David Keohan and John Fogg chipped in nine each for Thornton, which outscored Sanford 21-12 in the third quarter to take a 44-41 lead.
Tye Laviolette led Sanford with 16 points, Ethan Belanger added 13 and Frank Veino 10.
MASSABESIC 81, SCARBOROUGH 39: Dan Amabile had 17 points as the Mustangs (14-2) used a balanced offense and strong defense to handle the Red Storm (5-11) at Waterboro.
Isaac DesVergnes scored 14 of his 16 points in the third quarter, Ryan Gullikson had 13 points, Josh Daigle added 11 and Tyus Sprague-Ripley tossed in 10 for Massabesic.
Morgan Pratt had 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead the Red Storm.
YORK 56, POLAND 45: Trevor LaBonte scored 15 points for the Wildcats (7-9), who went on a 22-4 fourth-quarter run to rally past the Knights (7-9) at York.
Jackson McCarty added 11 points and Spencer Cribby scored 10 for York, which trailed 41-34 through three quarters.
Nathanial Chouinard and John Fossett scored 15 points apiece for Poland.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 68, RICHMOND 58: The Seagulls (12-4) outscored the Bobcats (9-5) 12-2 in overtime for the win at Richmond.
Evan Christensen scored 20 points to lead Old Orchard Beach.
SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 66, A.R. GOULD 62: Tim Yeaton scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Guardians (9-6) past the Bears (9-7) at Eliot.
Sky Archer added 16 points for Seacoast Christian, which shot 9 of 12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Tyrese Collins scored 19 points and Eric Myers added 14 for A.R. Gould.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 57, SACOPEE VALLEY 46: Jake Malcom scored 21 points to go with six rebounds, leading the Panthers (4-12) over the Hawks (2-14) at Yarmouth.
Haven Cutko added 13 points and eight assists, and Chandler Waldorn chipped in with 12 points for the Panthers, who pulled away late.
