The deadline to apply for a Hewnoaks Artist Colony residency in 2016 is March 2. The artist retreat in Center Lovell offers one- to three-week residencies for visual artists, photographers, filmmakers, performers, musicians and writers. Residents receive accommodations in cabins on Kezar Lake that formerly were part of a private family compound. This will be the fifth summer that Hewnoaks will host emerging and mid-career artists.

Most residents are from Maine, and many have never participated in a residency before. Groups and artists collaborating together also may apply.

Portland poet laureate Gibson Fay-LeBlanc was a resident in September 2015, and is now the program administrator.

“Hewnoaks offers a rare combination for artists of all kinds: the time, space, and solitude to create as well as an amazing amount of natural beauty and a small community of folks who value art-making,” he said.
