A Hollis man was charged with operating under the influence following a single-car crash Sunday night in Shapleigh.

Jeffrey Hodgkins Jr., 24, was allegedly operating under the influence when he crashed his 2004 Cadillac around 10:45 p.m. Sunday on County Road, according to York County Sheriff Bill King.

Both Hodgkins and his passenger, 24-year-old Jacob Higgins of Waterboro, were injured and treated at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford. King said deputies did not know the extent of their injuries, though they did not appear to be life-threatening.

Hodgkins was issued a summons for operating under the influence and is expected to appear in court on May 24. Higgins was issued a summons for violating conditions of release from an earlier charge, according to police.

The Shapleigh Fire and Rescue Department also responded to the crash.
