In these times of political turmoil, the media blitz is in full effect. A lot of people are promising you the moon, but how do you know who is the right choice?

When candidates spend more time and money attacking each other than actually explaining what they stand for, what questions need to be asked? We all want to vote for someone who represents us, but how do we know for sure if they are the candidate for you?

After hours sifting through the political madness, I’ve come up with one question that will instantly tell you if a candidate truly represents you: “Do you support daylight saving time?”

Laugh all you want – this is the true litmus test for all politicians. Ask yourself this: Have you ever netted any benefit from daylight saving time?

I’ve gone out of my way to talk to people from various walks of life – businessmen, farmers, teachers, etc. – and none claims any benefit from this policy. In fact, all you ever hear about is how much of a pain it is to have their sleep schedule messed up. And then there are the clocks.

Here we have something that’s been in effect for ages, has no known benefit to the average citizen and causes nothing but hassle, yet nothing is done about it because that’s just the way things are. Is that not the perfect metaphor for our political troubles?

By asking this simple question, we can get so many answers: Does this candidate truly represent you? Is the candidate willing to take on the system to bring change? And, most importantly, who really benefits from daylight saving time?

By the way: Did you know that our U.S. “representative” Chellie Pingree is supporting Hillary Clinton? Last time I checked, her constituents endorsed Bernie Sanders! Wait ’til she runs for office again. Not!
