A Portage Lake woman was killed Saturday when she crashed her snowmobile into a snow bank at high speed, state police said Monday.
Denise Beaulieu, 50, was traveling on Carr Pond, west of the town of Portage Lake, when she attempted to exit the pond onto a trail. Her Artic Cat snowmobile struck a snow bank, sending Beaulieu and the snowmobile airborne into a stand of trees. Ashland Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Beaulieu was wearing a helmet. Officials said speed was considered a factor in the crash.
Beaulieu was attending a social function at a camp on Carr Pond with friends before the crash.
