How odd that on April 6, half of the front page of your Local & State section was spent, with photographs, telling us: “Voters overwhelmingly approve bond for rebuilding Hall School.” That would be the overwhelming majority of the 4 percent of Portland voters who cast ballots.

And how even more odd that, during the prior few days, there was no mention or reminder in your paper of this referendum.

Here’s what I think should happen:

1. Small, focused “special elections” should vanish; the details of concern should be included in larger elections.

2. The Portland Press Herald should announce elections and referendums several times before the vote. Voting is a civic duty; help us to carry it out!
