Two people are facing drug charges after allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine inside a home on Indian Island.

Ashley Coffman, 35, and Kristopher Loring, 37, were arrested Monday following an investigation by the Penobscot Nation Police Department and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency of suspected meth manufacturing inside of a home on Burnurwurbskek Lane. Penobscot Nation officers on Monday found “a significant amount of evidence” consistent with illegal manufacturing of meth that had been discarded in trash destined for a local landfill, according to police.

Penobscot Nation officers executed a search warrant at 14 Burnurwurbskek Lane with help from the MDEA’s clandestine laboratory response team and seized evidence inside the home. Coffman and Loring were at the home along with two children when police arrived.

Coffman and Lorin were charged with Class B trafficking in Schedule W drugs (methamphetamine) and Class B unlawful operation of a meth lab. They were taken to Penobscot County Jail and bail was set at $50,000 cash. The children, ages 2 and 7, were placed in the custody of child protective workers from the Penobscot Nation.

The bust on Indian Island was the ninth state-wide meth incident the MDEA responded to in April. The agency and Penobscot Nation police continue to investigate the incident and say more arrests are likely.
