Some of my co-workers are new to Maine and have no idea who Margaret Chase Smith was. Nor were they aware of her speech: “I don’t want to see the Republican Party ride to victory on the four horsemen of calumny – fear, ignorance, bigotry and smear.”
She was, and still is, a Maine treasure.
