DENVER (AP) — Current and former employees of the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver are at risk of identity theft after a data breach.
The Denver Post reports the FBI is investigating alongside the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Archdiocese CFO Keith Parsons said Tuesday that the payroll system was accessed and W-2 information for about 80 people was seen in October.
The database holds names, addresses and Social Security numbers for about 18,000 people as well as information about spouses, dependents and insurance beneficiaries.
Parsons said the impacted individuals were referred to a company that helps repair credit harmed by identity theft.
It’s unclear if the data breach resulted in identity theft.
Parsons says two cybersecurity specialists who are former FBI agents are investigating the breach in-depth.
The FBI declined to comment.
