The School Administrative District 6 school board on Monday signed for the third time its budget warrants following two signature setbacks. The warrants call for the district’s budget referendum on Tuesday, June 14, in its five towns.

William Brockman, SAD 6 business manager, told the board members after they voted  to sign the budget warrants in a special meeting Monday that they needed to sign the documents before moving forward to other business.

“Third time is a charm,” Brockman said from the public podium.

The school board passed its $48.1 million budget on May 9 and its members signed the budget warrants, but later found a typographical error. The board in its regular meeting May 16, in a public vote, approved resigning the budget warrants.

But, it appeared that some signed the budget warrants during an executive session that had been called last week to discuss a personnel matter that ran until nearly midnight. Some members signed the second document “in public and some did not,” Rebecca Bowley, chairwoman of the board, acknowleged in an email response to the American Journal. “While we do not believe that this was improper, to avoid any arguable issue or even the appearance of impropriety, the board will be resigning the documents at our meeting on May 23.”

Asked before Monday’s meeting about resigning the budget warrants, director Paul Mosley of Standish said, “If we have to, we have to.”

Brockman said the warrants were to be posted Tuesday in the SAD 6 towns – Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, Limington and Standish.

The next step in the budget process is a district budget  meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Bonny Eagle Middle School, 92 Sokokis Trail, Buxton.

“Please attend,” Bowley urged during Monday’s televised meeting. “Please come to vote.”

The budget validation referendum in the five communities is set for Tuesday, June 14.
