I just heard Brian Kilmeade tell the “Fox & Friends” audience how boxer Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali was an inspiration to all and made everyone feel better. The airwaves are full of what a great man Ali was and how much he did for African-Americans.
Before he is canonized, I would like to say this on behalf of those of us who were pinned down in some rice paddy in Vietnam: When Ali told the world that he had “no quarrel with them Viet Cong” and would not serve – even though he was legally selected for the draft – as far as I and others are concerned, he did nothing for his fellow African-Americans, but a hell of a lot for Cassius Clay and maybe Howard Cosell.
