SANFORD — Joan E. Eisenhower, 80, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 28, 1936, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Tammadge) Engler. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn.

In 1954, she married Christopher Eisenhower. The couple moved several times before relocating to Maine approximately 40 years ago, where they raised their three children.

Early in her career, Joan worked as a secretary, then as a stay-at-home mom. When she retired, she had been employed as a bookkeeper for her husband’s automotive business.

She will be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The greatest joy in her life was her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher, who passed away in 2012.

She is survived by: her children, Christopher A. Eisenhower and his wife Helen of Saco, Joan E. Lizotte and her husband Paul of Goodwins Mills, and Andrew J. Eisenhower and his wife Jennifer of Sanford; five grandchildren, Christopher L. Eisenhower of Saco, Catherine Brewer of Saco, Eddie Hernandez of Waterboro, Arsene Lizotte of Goodwins Mills, and Andrea Eisenhower of Sanford; and many great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
