SHAPLEIGH/EMERY MILLS — Louis Anthony George, 87, of Emery Mills, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving daughters.

He was born July 19, 1928, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Marines until his honorable discharge in 1952.

Louis spent several years on Long Island studying music and voice; he had the opportunity to sing on and off Broadway in shows, including “South Pacific.” After meeting the love of his life, Muriel Proulx of Sanford, he married and settled in Emery Mills in 1956, where he would live the remainder of his life.

Louis had a passion for antiques, and was the proprietor of George’s Antiques for 60 years, sharing his knowledge until the day before his death.

He was also very involved in his church community, first Notre Dame of Springvale, then St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, where he served as lector, eucharistic minister, funeral cantor and long-time choir member.

Louis was preceded in death by: his parents, John George Sr. and Argilla (Rossi) George; as well as brothers John and Henry. He was sadly widowed in 2007 after 51 years of marriage to Muriel.

He is survived by: his daughters, Rita George and Argilla George-Reynolds; a sister, Elsie Flynn of Salisbury, Massachusetts; a brother, Alex Giorgi of Greenport, New York; four grandchildren, Joshua Reynolds, Grace Reynolds, Kimberly Basinger and Emily Roux; and two great-grandsons, Dylan and Jullian.

Calling hours will be held at Carll-Heald and Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 27.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Notre Dame Church of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, 10 Payne St., Springvale. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
