The following seniors at Mt. Ararat High School in SAD 75 were the top 10 students in the Class of 2016. Based in Topsham, the district also includes the towns of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Harpswell.

Rose Horowitz

Rose Horowitz, of Harpswell is the daughter of Susan Horowitz and Gail Kass. She was involved in Capstone, JOAD Archery Club, Poetry Out Loud (2015, 2016 state champion), Science Bowl, NASA MERITS, and interned at the Bowdoin in college neurobiology lab. Horowitz received the Dartmouth Book Award, was an AP Scholar with Honor, and earned many academic awards in science, English, math, science, health, and for writing. Horowitz plans to attend Wellesley College

Emma Levy

Emma Levy, of Harpswell, is the daughter of Sarah and Adam Levy. She participated in Envirothon, Nordic skiing, cross country, Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, District III Honors Band, All-State Band, Bowdoin College Concert Band, Interact Club, and was a Maine Youth Leadership Ambassador. Academic honors include excellence in English, AP calculus, pre-calculus and U.S. History, along with the Williams College Book Award, Pejebscot Historical Society Book Award, AP Scholar with Honor, National Honor Society, National Merit Commended Scholar, Scholastic Silver Key Writing Award and as a Maine Youth Leadership Ambassador. Levy plans to attend Williams College.

Macey Downs

Macey Downs, of Bowdoinham, is the daughter of Sue and Rick Downs. She was involved in the  theater at Mt. Ararat Stage Company, played trumpet in the school band and was in the Interact Club. Academic honors include National Honor Society, nominated for NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing, National AP Scholar with Honor, Smith College Book Award, Class Awards in English, physical science, Chinese, calculus AB, and AP U.S. history. Downs plans to attend Bard College, and double major in theater and psychology.

Carmen Caterina

Carmen Caterina, of Topsham, is the daughter of Kris Campbell and John Caterina. She was a student representative on the SAD 75 School Board, vice president of National Honor Society, president of the Class of 2016, member of PALS, GSTA, Brunswick-MTA Co-Op Club and played volleyball. Academic honors include MPA Principal’s Award, Wellesely College Book Award, and underclassmen awards for Academic Achievement in English and social studies. Caterina plans to attend Bowdoin College and study to teach high school English.

Bronwyn Caswell-Riday

Bronwyn Caswell-Riday, of Topsham, is the daughter of Emily Caswell and Ossian Riday. School activities includes cross-country, Nordic skiing, student government, National Honor Society and Math Team. Academic honors include Excellence in Foreign Language, Excellence in AP US History, AP Scholar, Portland Art Show, Art Museum for Youth Art Month and Mount Holyoke Book Award. Caswell-Riday will attend the University of Vermont to study psychology.

Harper Moutal

Harper Moutal, of Topsham, is the son of Paul Moutal and Maryane Burns. School activities included National Honor Society, Navigate, varsity basketball, varsity baseball captain. Academic honors include Phi Beta Kappa Recognition, AP Scholar, Dirigo Boys State delegate, 2016 Maine McDonald’s Academic All State Basketball Team, KVAC Senior Scholar. Moutal will attend Davidson College.

Wyatt Card

Wyatt Card, of Bowdoin, is the son of Wendall and Lisa Card. He was a member of the baseball team, and plans to attend Maine Maritime Academy in the fall.

Vanessa Balser

Vanessa Balser, of Topsham, is the daughter of Dwight and Jennifer Balser. She played soccer and lacrosse, and was a member of PALS, Interact Club and National Honor Society. Balser plans to attend Southern Maine Community College in the fall and become an EMT.

Courtney Rogers

Courtney Rogers, of Bowdoin, is the daughter of Julie Rogers. She participated in varsity fall and winter cheerleading and was in National Honor Society. Rogers was on the 2015-2016 All Academic Cheering Team and 2015-2016 All Conference Class A Cheering First Team. Rogers plans to attend the University of Tampa.

Alexandria Collins

Alexandria Collins, of Topsham, is the daughter of Nancy Johnson and Geof Collins. She was involved in Mt. Ararat Civil Rights and Social Justice League, National Honor Society, Mt. Ararat Outing Club, and the Mt. Ararat Stage Company. Collins earned an award for Excellence in Spanish and a 21st Century Leadership Award. She will attend Wells College, to study theater and business.
