The State Fire Marshal’s Office charged a Lincolnville woman with setting a vehicle on fire in Cape Elizabeth last weekend.
Melanie Vangel was arrested and charged with two counts of arson and one count of unauthorized use of property, the office said. Vangel allegedly stole a van from Rockport late Friday night or Saturday morning, drove to New Hampshire, then parked it next to a garage at 2 Light Terrace in Cape Elizabeth and set it on fire Saturday. The 2014 Chrysler Town and Country was destroyed and the garage sustained several thousand dollars worth of damage.
Vangel was arrested late Saturday in Cape Elizabeth. Cape Elizabeth and Rockport police also were involved in the investigation.
