A San Francisco-based health care technology company is opening an office in Lewiston-Auburn and expects to eventually hire up to 200 people.
Grand Rounds works with people to find second opinions and to steer them to the best doctors to treat their conditions. It mostly works with companies that provide health insurance coverage to their workers and claims that by helping people find the best and most appropriate doctors, complication rates are lower, less work time is lost
The company said Wednesday that it chose Lewiston for its expansion because a majority of its customers and doctors the company works with are located in either the central or eastern time zones. Grand Rounds’ other locations are San Francisco and Reno, Nevada.
The company said it has opened its office in Auburn at One Great Falls Plaza while it works on a lease for a larger space in the Bates Mill redevelopment in Lewiston.
Robin Suchan, a spokeswoman for the company, said Grand Rounds expects to hire about 30 people for its Maine location by the end of the year and its five-year plan calls for about 200 workers. Many will be care coordinators. The company said many of those positions require a four-year college degree and customer service experience.
