YARMOUTH — Lily Posternak had a goal and an assist to lead York to a 3-1 victory over Yarmouth in a Class B field hockey game Monday night.

The win was York’s 41st straight.

With 9:49 remaining in the first half, Posternak unloaded a rocket from the top of the circle on the right side that banged off the bottom left of the net to give York (5-0) a 1-0 lead.

“I was just trying to put it on net so hopefully we had girls in position to get the rebound,” said Posternak.

“You never know if it’s going to go in so it’s good to just get it on net.”

Five minutes later, Yarmouth (3-2) tied the game on a beautiful one-timer from Eliza Lunt to Ally MacLeod.

Lunt held possession deep on the right side and delivered a sharp pass to MacLeod, who was camped in front of the right side of the net and directed the ball past York goalkeeper Julianna Kiklis.

“We just made a mistake and (Yarmouth) capitalized on it,” said York Coach Barb Marois.

Added Yarmouth Coach Amy Ashley: “We talked about not having a lot of opportunities today so we have to finish on the ones that we do get.”

The score remained 1-1 going into the half.

“I was proud in the first half they were able to come back and get that goal before halftime. That was really, really huge,” said Ashley.

York came out in the second half with intensity and executed better. An overwhelming majority of the final 30 minutes was played in Yarmouth’s end.

“It seemed like every time we took a free hit, it was just going right to (York’s Emlyn Patry),” said Ashley. “We couldn’t get it by that second line.”

The Wildcats took the lead with 16:29 left in the game when Isabel Bretz scored on an assist from Posternak.

“Lily drove on (the left side), got her shot on and Izzy (Bretz) was right there to scoop the rebound,” said Marois. “That was big.”

Added Posternak: “(Bretz) has been doing a great job of using her speed up the sideline and baseline.”

Sydney Bouchard tacked on an insurance goal with 2:29 remaining.

“(Bouchard) made some nice moves to create a little space to get her shot off,” said Marois.

Cate Ralph was strong in net for Yarmouth, making a couple of incredible saves on Posternak.

“I thought Cate Ralph played great,” said Ashley. “I’m very excited, we can take a lot of positives off that.”

Less than a minute into the second half, Ralph stretched out for a great kick save to her left on a shot by Posternak. Then, 10 minutes later, she made another acrobatic kick save on Posternak.

York outshot Yarmouth 6-1 and held a 15-1 corner advantage.

“You can’t expect to go a whole game and win with one offensive corner,” said Ashley. “You can’t score one goal on York and expect that to be a victory.”

“We’re heading in the right direction,” said Posternak.
