SACO — Susan M. Riley, 55, of Saco, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, after a brief and courageous battle with brain cancer, surrounded by her loving family and her loyal friend and caregiver, Sharon Ryan.

Susan was born in Boston on Nov. 30, 1960, the daughter of the late Leo F. and Rita M. (Talbot) Riley.

She graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco in 1978. She worked as a CNA, became a licensed cosmetologist, and ultimately went on to own and operate her own senior living facility in Bucksport.

Susan moved back to Saco when her mother Rita’s health was declining. She worked side by side with her mother volunteering and learning at the Friends of Community Action (an organization started by her mother), and also ran the Biddeford Food Pantry. She participated in all these activities while also caring for her ailing mother until her death, and until Susan’s own health forced her to stop.

Susan was a rare and special person, which could be easily felt when one was in her presence. She radiated kindness, intelligence and great wit. She was known for her sense of humor, often accompanied by her infectious laugh. She was a lover of people, animals, travel, music, the great outdoors and, of course, fun… lots of fun!

Susan was preceded in death by: her partner of 15 years, Katie McGee; a brother, Leo F. Riley Jr.; a brother-in-law, Glen Ouillette; and all her beloved pets.

She is survived by: a brother, Joseph E. Riley and his wife Anne; two sisters, Rita M. Ouillette, and Patricia Bartelloni and her husband Leo; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
