In recent elections we have elected candidates who failed to have the support of the majority of voters because there were more than two candidates running for the position. There is now a way to fix this.

On Nov. 8 we will have an opportunity to support ranked choice voting. We will be able to rank as many or as few candidates as we like for each elected office. Then, if more than two candidates are running, and no one gets a majority at first, our second choice candidates would be added to the totals until one candidate reaches a majority and wins the contest.

Question 5 on the statewide ballot is led by the League of Women Voters of Maine and has attracted widespread support. It would give more power to us to select the leaders we want in Augusta.
