You recently reported (Sept. 2) that Portland’s Democratic City Committee said in its recent forum that “racism is prevalent … in Portland” and that “systemic racism is very real in Portland, and our community has much work to do to end racism and reverse decades of injustice.”

For decades, members of the Democratic Party have made up the majority of our city government, dominating the local political and governmental systems, and have been a major force on Portland’s economic and social scene.

Having made this libel of our citizenry, it is incumbent on the city committee to identify in which of our local institutions this systemic racism exists, what form it takes, what we Democrats have done over these decades to lessen it and what our party plans to do to meet its obligation to end it.
