DAYTON — Sylvia M. Smart, 98, of Hight Road, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Evergreen Manor in Saco.

She was born in Westbrook on May 1, 1918, the daughter of Perley and Florence Newcomb Hoyt.

Sylvia worked for many years in the local textile mills, including the Bates, Pepperell Mills and Biddeford Textile, retiring in 1980. She later worked as a housekeeper in the Biddeford-Saco area.

Sylvia enjoyed playing cards, reading and watching NASCAR; her favorite driver was Jimmy Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1955, and her two brothers, Harold and Leroy Hoyt.

She is survived by: her daughter, Nadine Lagueux and husband David of Dayton; special family friends Colleen Vandegrift and Nancy Sprague of Machias; a grandson, Alan; and a great-grandson, Joshua.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
