The steeple of St. Philip’s is the oldest and tallest on the Wiscasset sky line. Since 1857, it has presided over weddings, baptisms, funerals, Sunday services, Strawberry Festivals, Christmas fairs, as well as a busy food pantry, AA meetings, and a Bargain Basement selling second hand items.

A few years ago, however, the steeple was showing signs of serious debilitation. A grant from the Maine Steeples Fund, a component fund of the Maine Community Foundation, will provide $14,848 to the project if St. Philip’s can raise the same amount.

Those who cannot attend the event are encouraged to send a contribution to St. Philip’s Church, referencing the “steeple fund.” Checks may be mailed to St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, Maine 04578.
