Last month, 88 military generals and admirals signed a letter of support for and to Donald Trump. All are retired, as required by military law.

Most are my age or less and should not have taken the bait when Trump said he would “listen to the generals” if he were elected president.

Anyone recall “weapons of mass destruction” during the run-up to Iraq? One general, Gregory Newbold, spoke against planning an invasion and ended up in “involuntary retirement.”

Commanders in chief make the ultimate decisions, no matter the generals’ opposition. This is important and necessary. My favorite, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, learned the hard way who is boss. Colin Powell, on the other hand, was duped by civilians.

Bottom line: I’m a Trump supporter, but talk is cheap, and those retired generals and admirals should have known better or are hungry for war.
