Two weeks ago, I took the time to drive to the Democratic headquarters in another town and pick up a Hillary Clinton-Tim Kaine sign for my front yard.
The volunteer at the headquarters said that they were out of signs, but I could have their “display” sign outside, so I happily took the sign and posted it in my front yard, across the street from my neighbors’ Clinton-Kaine sign.
The next morning both signs were gone, and I was furious. Driving to work, I noticed that several of the Clinton signs in town were defaced: Someone had slapped pro-Donald Trump stickers on them.
I haven’t noticed any Trump signs with pro-Clinton stickers covering them, and the Trump sign that has marked the entrance to our neighborhood stands untouched, where it has been for several weeks.
I understand that this is a very contentious presidential campaign, but as the Press Herald reported Thursday morning in the front-page article on vandalism to campaign signs, some of us are getting fed up with having our right to free speech trampled. Let’s all respect each other’s right to free expression!
