Re: “Baby lobsters may not survive ocean warming, scientists say” (Sept. 25):

The decline in lobster populations caused by rising ocean temperatures underscores the urgency of tackling global warming. Unfortunately, lobster stock declines and threats to other marine life are exactly the sort of events that climate scientists predict will become pronounced in Maine unless we reduce climate pollution.

We are running up against the clock to cut the global warming pollution that puts our families’ health and livelihoods at risk. If we are serious about preventing the worst impacts of climate change we need to transition from dirty, polluting cars and trucks to 100 percent clean cars, fueled with renewable energy.

We need to push for cleaner cars and trucks – the largest source of climate pollution in this country. This means supporting Maine in leading the way to electrify vehicles in the coming year and supporting federal standards on cars and trucks. We have solutions – isn’t it time to embrace them?
