KENNEBUNK — Barbara E. Stone, 95 years, a resident of Alfred Road in West Kennebunk, died Friday Nov. 4, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family after brief illness.

Barbara was born in Lon-dondery, New Hampshire on April 7, 1921, a daughter of Prescott and Dorothy E. (Boyden) Torrey.  She graduated from Pinkerton High School in Derry, New Hampshire and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a secretary.

Barbara was employed by United States Post Office of West Kennebunk as Assistant Post Master for 30 years and was also a homemaker for many years.

Barbara was active in the West Kennebunk Methodist Church for many years where she was involved in a Bible group, and the Women’s Society. Barbara’s favorite thing was Sunday lunch with her family, which she prepared for over 40 years. Barbara also loved knitting, crosswords, reading, coffee with friends, beach trips, T.O.P.S., bowling leagues, crafts club and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Adelbert Wallace Stone who died in 1998, and her brother and sister, Prescott “Bill” Torrey and Ruth “Punkie” Wells.

She is survived by: three sons, Gerald Stone of Lyman, Robert Stone of Kennebunk and Todd Stone of Alfred; two daughters, Sharon LeFabvre of Merrimac, New Hampshire and Torrey Desper of Lyman; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the West Kennebunk Methodist Church, Main Street, West Kennebunk with Reverend Deb Hanson officiating. Interment followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk.
