Diversified Communications, a media and events company that plans trade shows globally, will receive Portland’s top business honor Thursday.

Portland Development Corp., the economic development and financial assistance arm of the city, selected Diversified as its Business of the Year. The award will be conferred Thursday at a ceremony at Ocean Gateway, according to a release from the city.

Also selected for recognition were the Maine College of Art, which received the city’s Economic Achievement Award, and Maine Standard Biofuels, which received the Small Business of the Year award.

“We are honored to be recognized and in such good company,” said Ted Wirth, Diversified’s president and CEO, in the release. “Our neighbors at MECA are the cornerstone of creativity and vitality in our city and Standard Biofuels is helping to eliminate waste and provide clean energy options for all of us.”

Diversified’s Portland office currently employs 200 people. It offers an award-winning wellness program and onsite fitness center for the health and wellness of its people. Additionally, the company pays employees to volunteer, and contributes to local nonprofit organizations as nominated by employees and through an annual fundraising program, with a company match to MaineShare and United Way.
