The Cape Elizabeth Town Council has appointed Debra Lane, the town’s assistant manager and city clerk, as the interim town manager, effective Jan. 1.
Cape Elizabeth is in the midst of a search to replace longtime Town Manager Mike McGovern, who is set to retire on Dec. 31.
Under its current schedule, the council will not be ready to name a new town manager by the end of the year.
Lane will serve as the interim manager until a successor for McGovern is chosen. Her salary will be increased by $276 per week during that time.
