The engine of a truck loaded with potatoes caught fire Tuesday night on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham, Maine State Police said.
Police said the engine of the truck, which was heading south from St. Agatha in Aroostook County, burst into flames around 7:47 p.m.
The driver, whose name was unavailable, escaped. The fire was quickly brought under control, but I-295 had to be shut down for about 30 minutes.
The driver tried to douse the fire with an extinguisher, but was unsuccessful. The trailer where the potatoes were stored was not damaged.
